 SPOKANE METROPOLITAN AREA

Spokane Metropolitan Area

The City of Spokane, encompassing 58.65 square miles, is the most populated city between Seattle and Minneapolis-St. Paul and the second most populated city in the state.  Spokane County is the fourth most populated in the state. Containing 1,758.3 square miles, the county’s boundaries are contiguous with the Spokane Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Local industry and the metropolitan corridor

  • North Idaho Industry: Anchored by Lake Coeur d’Alene and the Coeur d’Alene Resort, tourism and related services and businesses have become the primary industry in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
  • Industrial/Manufacturing options: Spokane boasts two nationally recognized medical centers, Fairchild Air Force Base and numerous small and mid-sized service, manufacturing, and industrial concerns.
  • Expanding communities: The cities of Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake, Washington, and Post Falls, Idaho, are located along I-90 in the path of growth between Spokane, Washington, and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Continued expansion in all of these communities will ultimately form a nearly continuous metropolitan corridor.
